Seed Hunt

On Friday we went on a seed hunt. Have a look at our collection in the classroom. Can you work out how the seeds are dispersed? What special characteristics do the seeds have to help them move from place to place? Can you find any other examples?

Encouraging children to reflect on their learning once they have left the classroom

Who can tell me the name of these seeds?

Encouraging interactions between members of our learning community

On Friday Ellise's Mum, who is a scientist, came into our class to teach us about seeds, plants and conducting a fair test. She bought in two identical dishes, both with the same type and number of seeds which had germinated. However one of the dishes had been completely covered with tinfoil so the plants received no light. Can you tell someone at home what happened to the plants and why?

Transactional Writing linked to real life contexts

Science Investigations. Why won't our seeds germinate?

Today we planted some broad bean seeds. We placed wet paper towels into a plastic cup. We put the bean seed down the side of the cup so we can see it germinate. We placed the cups in a sunny place by the window and We need to keep it moist. We can't wait for them to germinate.
