Seed Hunt
On Friday we went on a seed hunt. Have a look at our collection in the classroom. Can you work out how the seeds are dispersed? What special characteristics do the seeds have to help them move from place to place? Can you find any other examples?
Encouraging children to reflect on their learning once they have left the classroom
Who can tell me the name of these seeds?
Encouraging interactions between members of our learning community
On Friday Ellise's Mum, who is a scientist, came into our class to teach us about seeds, plants and conducting a fair test. She bought in two identical dishes, both with the same type and number of seeds which had germinated. However one of the dishes had been completely covered with tinfoil so the plants received no light. Can you tell someone at home what happened to the plants and why?

Anna Harrison That's a great experiment. How wonderful to have a real scientist come and work with you. Thanks Elise.
Science Investigations. Why won't our seeds germinate?
Today we planted some broad bean seeds. We placed wet paper towels into a plastic cup. We put the bean seed down the side of the cup so we can see it germinate. We placed the cups in a sunny place by the window and We need to keep it moist. We can't wait for them to germinate.
Developing cooperative group work skills
We are learning skills to help us work effectively in a small group. We are exploring different group roles and having a go at putting these into practice. Everyone has the responsibility of being an active, respectful participant.
Shared writing using digital technologies
Today I bought in a swan seed pod to school. A swan seed comes from a quick growing swan plant. It is a species of milkweed. It is native to Southeast Africa. Monarch butterflies like to lay their eggs on the plant. By Lilah,Lucia and Miss Blewden
Herbaceous Herbs
Today we looked closely at a variety of plants. We felt, smelled and observed them carefully to try and work out what they were. Here is a chart of our efforts. I wonder what type of plants they are? Watch this space.
2017 Class Treaty
We have done a lot of work on our class treaty. We are learning to put into practice all the things that we think are important for a safe and happy class. Have a close look at the display on our classroom wall and see what we think the things on our treaty actually mean.
